West Hempstead Schools - The West Hempstead Union Free School District recognizes the unique value of each student. It is dedicated to the success of each student based on the highest standards of excellence in education. Each student will be challenged to achieve mastery in all subject areas in an educational atmosphere that strives to build positive self-esteem, mutual respect for others, and life-long quest for learning.
Garden City Schools - The GardenCitySchool district has seven schools (1 high school, 1 middle school, 2 grades 2-5 schools, and 3 K-1 schools) that educate 4,193 students. The district employs 622 employees. Community expectations for education are high. Garden City is a community that is 5.3 square miles in size with a population of 21,672. A drive through the community shows large single family homes and upper middle income neighborhoods. There is limited diversity with a 99% Caucasian and 98% Christian population. Educational levels in the community are high with 97% holding high school diplomas or higher, 62% holding a Bachelors´ degree or higher, and 30% having a graduate degree. The median household income is $104,176 and the median home value is $460,000. The most common
ancestries of residents are Irish, German, and Italian with some Polish, English, and Greek.
Many are long-time residents, although there has been a recent increase in families moving in to
attend the Garden City Schools. The community is described as traditional. Many parents
commute to New York City for work and the area was particularly hard hit by the events of
9/11/01.
High Schools
Hempstead High School (9-12) Steppers at Hempstead HS have won numerous honors and distinctions and have appeared at the Apollo Theater in NYC. Hempstead HS has a Law Club and the Future Teachers of America Program. Hempstead HS participate in HOSTS Help One Student to Succeed program. Hempstead HS is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

West Hempstead High School(9-12) West Hempstead High School is committed to offering a comprehensive educational experience that will prepare each student for meaningful post-high school pursuits. Guidance counselors offering students assistance in course selection and career direction. Providing up-to-date information on colleges, universities and programs of interest to all students with specific and particular needs. A full regents program ensuring the high standards and expectations we seek to instill in our students. Offering courses in Math, Science, English Social Studies, Foreign Language, Music, Related Arts, Health and Physical Education. Programs, which offer Advance Placement and College credit, are available in English, Foreign Languages, Math, Science, Social Studies and Art. GardenCityHigh School has been a member of the Middle States Association since 1961 and will soon be evaluated by a Continuous School Improvement evaluation team. Currently, 94.3% of GardenCitySchool graduates go onto higher education and 82.9% graduate with a Regents diploma (45% is the New YorkState average).
